Bio-Based Starch Media Recycling Program

Midvale Industries and Midvale Environmental Technologies have been working with military and commercial aerospace MRO facilities for decades. We provide environmentally responsible solutions which preserve aircraft integrity, provide worker safety, and promote environmental stewardship of products utilized in the blasting and coating removal processes. Midvale developed a patented recycling program for starch abrasives that has been utilized in both commerical and military applications. Type VII (GPX/GP) has mil spec (MIL-P85891A) and many commercial approvals, including Boeing, Textron, Sikorsky, and Lockheed Martin.

Here is an overview of our recycling program:

aerospace coating removal

Step 1

Starch media is used in an abrasive blasting process

starzorb

Step 2

After it has been blasted, the bio-based abrasive is loaded into a large box or drum and labeled as Starzorb. The containers are shipped to our partner processing facility.

Step 3

All shipments are electronically and manually tracked from the blast facility to our partner processing facility.

lab testing

Step 4

After the Starzorb has been received at our partner facility, a sample is taken from each container for lab testing.

Step 5

Starzorb is then utilized at our partner processing facility in a controlled environment.

Step 6

During the final stages of the recycling process, 99.9912% of chromium is thermally and mechanically bound into the cement matrix and non-leachable.
